O Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, help those whom the Master invites to the service of the Gospel to echo your own trusting “yes” that the work of evangelization may inspire every tongue to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God.
1. POSTULANCY
Postulancy is both a period and place of discernment for candidates who are preparing to enter consecrated life. A twelve-month period of initial formation, during this time a woman begins to live the common and spiritual life of the community; it is a prayerful process through which she tries to discover God’s desire for her in the circumstances of her life. It is a way of listening to the voice of God in her experiences, in Scripture and in the Church.
At this stage these young women wear standard skirt and top, but no vail.
Also at this stage they are to still be called by their first name only, not "sister."
2. NOVITIATE
A young woman officially becomes a member of the community when she enters the Novitiate, as a novice, she receives the habit of the community with the white veil and a crucifix as a sign of love for God and for the first time is call Sister. The Novitiate lasts two years, of which the first one is called a "canonical" year. During the first year the Novice does not participate in apostolates, she concentrates more in her studies which includes doctrine of the vows, spirituality, scripture, basic Theology and a profound prayer life and solitude. On the second year, she participates in the apostolic activities of the community, and she continues with her religious formation and profound prayer life.
3. TEMPORAL PROFESSION
Profession is the liturgical rite by which a person formally enters consecrated life by making vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. Formation continues during temporary vows to strengthen a life of union with God and gradually each Sister is introduced to our different apostolates. Temporary profession is part of the formation process and lasts for five years, first taken for a year period then, twice for a period of two years. The Sister may then request profession of perpetual vows.
At this stage the sisters will be dressed in only the formal black vail, jacket, and skirt.
4. PERPETUAL PROFESSION AND ON-GOING-FORMATION
After five years in temporal vows, Sister makes her perpetual profession. Six months prior to the final vows, she will have an intensive preparation. On that special day the Sister pronounces her consecration formula with the words “for all my life” according to the Constitutions of the Pax Christi Institute and the spirituality Oneness in the Lord.
At this stage the Sisters say their final vows and receive their ring.
The normal time spane to reach this final stage is about 6 years.
Religious formation does not end with the Sister’s perpetual profession. It is a pursuit that never ends, throughout her life she has a listening heart always responsive to the Father’s will. Always attentive to her vision of spreading the Good News of Peace to all mankind through her life of prayer and service as a living witness of Jesus Christ our Peace.
